borer beetles
It’s any one of several species of bark beetle. They burrow under the bark, lay eggs and the larva feed off the soft cambium layer under the bark. Bark beetles can be controlled if you start soon, but it’s very easy to let the infestation grow beyond successful treatment. If you value the trees get an arborist or landscaping company to take a look and give advice.
